Big Bear Lake Vacation - FAIL

We planned a nice weeklong vacation to Big Bear Lake.  We rented a cabin. Our friends, John and Krista, decided to join us the second half of the week.  We were going to trade off skiing, John one day, then Rebecca one day so that we'd each get a day of skiing.  We should know better than to plan something with a toddler involved.  The night before we left, Sunday, Jack had a fever of 102.3.  Well, if you read our previous posts, you'd know he (and J&R) have been sick on and off for weeks.  We didn't think much of it.  We gave him some advil because he was kinda cranky.  On the drive up, Rebecca can clearly see that Jack is getting pink eye.  So we go to Urgent Care when we get up there and figure he'll get some eye drops and be fine.  At first we didn't think we'd get in because they said the doctor was sick and was going to go home, but he agreed to see Jack before he left.  The nurse took his temp, heart rate and blood oxygen with the finger clip.  The blood oxygen was 88%.  So the dr has her take it again.  This time it's 83%.  So we are worried it's pneumonia and pink eye.  He sends us straight to the ER since they may have to do a chest x-ray, etc.  When we get there, it's full of teenage boys and young adult men who have broken/ sprained/ dislocated shoulders/ arms/ legs etc.  We finally get in to nurse triage and she gives Rebecca a hard time about taking him up to 6700 feet when he's sick. (Whatever, lady)  She tries taking his blood oxygen again with the finger clip and can't get it to read.  She tries his big toe and can't get that either (smashing his second toe in the process).  Finally, she get's the attachment that they usually use for kids and gets a reading...98%.  He doesn't have pneumonia.  The Dr. ended up taking a swab for influenza and RSV but both were negative.  The Dr concluded Jack had an adenovirus that was causing his pink eye.  Nothing we could do but wait it out and give him cold medicine to help keep his sinuses open at altitude.  So for the next few days, Jack felt pretty crummy.  He coughed, his nose ran, he wouldn't eat.  John went skiing one day but then the next day he came down with it too.  Rebecca was either still sick from the previous week or had the virus but not as bad.  Mommy had to take care of everyone.  John and Krista came up and skied for two days and had a great time.  Jack started feeling better on Thursday.  On Friday, Rebecca took Jack to the Discovery Center where he looked at dead, stuffed mammals and birds and 2 live tortoises and a bunch of rocks.  He seemed to enjoy certain aspects of it. Then on the drive back down Rebecca came down with pink eye.  :(

At least the ski conditions weren't that great so it didn't feel like we were really missing out.

Walking Packer around the neighborhood.

Jack has been crazy about riding toys.  He'll sit on anything and try to ride it.  Since he was trapped inside, mommy finally got him a fire engine.  He loves pushing the buttons and pushing it around.  He doesn't really try to ride it much though!
